Job summary

People Corporation seeks an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our HR Shared Services payroll operations across multiple provinces and entities in Canada. You will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while supporting integration activities for new acquisitions.

Responsibilities include end-to-end payroll processing, year-end activities, system leadership (ADP Workforce Now and Workday HCM), and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in a Payroll Manager or senior payroll leadership role.
  • Extensive experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading payroll activities during mergers, acquisitions, and organizational integrations.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, source deductions, taxable benefits, pension administration, and year-end reporting.
  • Experience managing payroll for multiple legal entities and provinces.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Business Administration, Accounting, and/or PCP designation.
  • Experience working within a Workday HCM environment if preferred.
  • Experience supporting payroll process transformation and automation initiatives.
  • Bilingual English/French is considered an asset.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Payroll Manager to join our HR Shared Services team in leading our payroll operations. People Corporation is a growing, acquisition-driven organization and the Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of payroll services while supporting payroll integration activities related to new acquisitions.

The Payroll Manager will:
Payroll Operations
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-provincial and multi-company Canadian workforce.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, benefits deductions, retirement plan contributions, bonuses, commissions, and other earnings.
  • Review and approve payroll reconciliations, statutory remittances, and payroll funding requirements.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely remittance of RRSP/DPSP contributions to retirement plan providers.
  • Develop and maintain controls, procedures, and reporting related to retirement remittances to minimize financial and compliance risk.
  • Oversee year-end payroll activities, including T4s, RL-1s, ROEs, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation and employment standards.
Acquisition & Integration Support
  • Lead payroll integration activities related to business acquisitions and organizational changes.
  • Assess payroll risks, processes, and controls for newly acquired entities.
  • Coordinate employee data conversion, payroll mapping, earnings and deduction alignment, and payroll testing activities.
  • Develop and execute payroll transition plans to ensure seamless integration into existing payroll operations.
  • Partner with HR Business Partner, Integration and external vendors throughout acquisition projects.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Serve as the functional lead for ADP Workforce Now and related payroll systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, controls, and employee experience.
  • Define service level agreements (SLAs) and key metrics to monitor efficiency and effectiveness of HR Shared Services.
  • Support payroll system enhancements, upgrades, integrations, and automation initiatives.
  • Document and maintain payroll procedures, controls, and standard operating practices.
  • Consult with HR Business Advisory and HR functional leaders to support the continuous improvement of payroll services.
Leadership
  • Provide leadership to the payroll team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for overseeing the payroll team and their activities including hiring, delegating work, determining priorities, and evaluating performance.
  • Actively mentor and coaches the team to ensure a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction, monitors activities to ensure SLAs and transactional deadlines are met.
  • Establish individual development plan(s), monitor success and provide regular feedback.
  • Develop annual operational plans, long and short-term project plans and monitors deliverables.
  • Advise HR Leadership of resourcing needs and support required to implement new processes/policies/guidelines.

To be successful as a Payroll Manager with People Corporation, you will need:

Salary Range

The base salary for this position is between $115,000 - 130,000 annually.

This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation (i.e. annual bonus). The actual base salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
