Job Title: Payroll Associate

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, we are looking to hire a Payroll Associate who is experienced, detail‑oriented, enjoys working in a fast‑paced team environment, and is ready to join our energetic payroll team. Our staff are active in the National Payroll Association and continuously stay up to date on industry developments, helping us to improve our processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing and processing bi‑weekly, monthly, and quarterly payrolls in accordance with company policies, collective agreements, and legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Completing Records of Employment (ROEs), employment verifications, and responding to internal and external stakeholder inquiries regarding payroll.
  • Assisting in processing year‑end transactions, balancing, reporting, adjustments, and remitting T4’s.
  • Participating in payroll related projects.
  • Leading certain continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining detailed records for audit purposes.
  • Being responsible for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera’s Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) program.
  • Assisting with ad‑hoc reporting, requests, projects, and processes as required.
What Skills Will Make You Successful?
  • Previous work experience processing full‑cycle payrolls is an asset.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and have excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing obligations.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft payroll software is an asset.
