Job summary

A leading poultry industry company in Metro Vancouver is seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist to manage and administer employee benefits programs. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of payroll related experience, strong knowledge of legislation, and excellent organizational skills. This role offers a salary range of $30 - $32 per hour and invites qualified individuals to apply regardless of background.

Role

Working as part of the Payroll team, the Benefits Specialist will be responsible for managing and administering employee benefits programs. This role requires a strong understanding of benefits administration, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full‑cycle payroll for union / nonunion employees including processing new hires, terminations, rate changes, direct deposits, ROE’s, pension and T-4’s
  • Coordinate payroll activities to ensure all pay data is complied, processed and reconciled in an accurate and timely manner to meet all payroll deadlines
  • Reconciliation of all statutory requirements, deductions and other payroll related accounts
  • Calculate, deduct, reconcile and remit amounts ordered to be withheld through garnishment, third party demand, or family support deduction orders
  • Execute payroll and generate payroll runs, and create associated journal entries
  • Respond to payroll‑related inquiries from employees and managers in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assisting with Group Benefits, Pension, and RRSP /Cross‑train with other Payroll Administrators on administering benefits such as enrollment, termination of benefit, preparing benefit package, cost allocation, and related items
  • Maintain up to date and accurate record of accumulated hours and seniority list
  • Review and apply wage increases for part time and relief employees
  • Participate in regular payroll audits to guarantee accuracy of data and ensure all payroll processes and procedures are adhered to
  • Prepare reports for various departments
  • Updating employee contract package and COLA calculations
  • Covering vacations & Cross training for various pay groups
  • Other duties and projects as required, as well as sorting and filing documents.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of payroll related experience, preferably in a large volume and fast‑pace environment
  • Completion of Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) would be an asset
  • Current knowledge of government legislations and Employment Standard Act
  • Experience working with Ceridian is an asset (training is available)
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience in effective communications with personnel at all levels
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to work well independently, and to effectively multi‑task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Excellent time management skills / Ability to meet the tight month & year end deadlines
  • Accountability, dependability, positive and can‑do attitude is critical
Salary

$30 - $32 an hour
