Payroll and Benefits Leader – Activate Games

Activate is a technology company building interactive gaming facilities with locations across Canada and the US, known for Canada’s first full‑scale interactive gaming facility. The Payroll and Benefits Leader reports to the Director of Finance and will oversee payroll and benefits administration for Activate’s Canadian and U.S. operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the payroll team and oversee daily workflow, ensuring effective delivery of services and quality of all deliverables.
• Manage performance and staff by providing coaching and feedback; track training and evaluations.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to align benefits, compensation, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local payroll regulations; stay informed on Canadian and U.S. legislation, tax regulations, and emerging practices.
• Register with payroll authorities; oversee audits and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain confidentiality and proper communication of technical payroll information.
• Approve end‑to‑end payroll processing for all employees.
• Collaborate with payroll and HR software providers to build efficiencies and set up payroll systems accurately.
• Lead development of payroll procedures, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Prepare and distribute payroll reporting for management.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Lead administration of benefits programs and compliance reporting.
• Oversee processing of group benefits enrollments, amendments, terminations, and employee inquiries.
• Stay informed of regulatory changes affecting benefits plans and ensure practices meet requirements.
• Develop, maintain, and train standard operating procedures for benefits administration.

Qualifications

• Post‑secondary education in accounting, business, or human resources.
• PCP/PLP/CPP designation.
• 5+ years of payroll administration experience with at least 3 years of supervisory/leadership experience.
• 2+ years of benefits administration experience in Canada and the USA.
• Proven knowledge of payroll practices in Canada and the USA.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems; ADP experience is a strong asset.
