Job description

As a member of our Patient Watch team, you will be responsible for monitoring patients who require additional observation to ensure their safety and well-being. This role is crucial in preventing falls, self-harm, or any other incidents. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively to various situations.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Monitor and observe patients on a continuous basis, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  2. Report any changes in patient behavior or condition to the healthcare team promptly.
  3. Assist with patient mobility and positioning as needed.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients to provide reassurance and support.
  5. Document observations and activities accurately and promptly.
  6. Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  7. Respond quickly and appropriately to any emergency situations or patient needs.
  8. Respond promptly to security incidents, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and safety hazards.
  9. Interact with patients, visitors, and staff in a calm and respectful manner, resolving conflicts and addressing concerns to maintain a peaceful environment.
  10. Utilize effective de-escalation techniques to manage volatile situations and prevent escalation to violence.

Requirements :

  • Valid BC Security Guard License
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals in a healthcare setting
  • Previous experience in security, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain composed under pressure
  • Basic computer skills for report writing and incident documentation
  • Ability to complete detailed reports, multi-task, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Must undergo a criminal background check
  • Post-secondary education in Police Foundations, Community Justice Services, or Law Enforcement is an asset
