Job summary

Lakeridge Health in Oshawa/Ajax-Pickering is seeking an experienced Pathologist Assistant to support the Histopathology department. The role involves describing gross findings, obtaining tissue sections, and assisting with specialized procedures under the supervision of Pathologists and the Laboratory Manager.

The ideal candidate has a science-based baccalaureate, CAP-ACP registration, and experience in surgical pathology grossing, with knowledge of anatomy, PPE, and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in Science with advanced level courses in anatomy/physiology or healthcare professional with histopathology experience
• Registered with CAP-ACP
• CCCPA certification or in progress
• MS in Pathologist Assistant is an asset
• ASCP certification is an asset
• Prior experience as a Pathologist Assistant preferred
• Experience in surgical pathology grossing with knowledge of anatomy and gross dissection
• Understanding of preanalytical processes and specimen handling
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven ability to work independently and as a team with Pathologists
• Proficiency with Epic and Dragon dictation software
• Knowledge of PPE and lab safety procedures
• Safe chemical handling and spill procedures
• Commitment to ongoing education and client service excellence
• Demonstrated teamwork and positive workplace contribution
• Compliance with Lakeridge Health safety programs

Responsibilities

• Describe and dictate gross findings of specimens using established protocols
• Take representative tissue sections for histological processing
• Assist with ancillary special procedures on specimens
• Perform other duties as assigned by Pathologists and Laboratory Manager
