Qualifications

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology, plus two years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in remote and challenging field environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and field-to-office documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field crews and coordinate project objectives, budgets, schedules, and client requirements.
  • Direct field activities and ensure accurate and timely data collection.
  • Conduct surveys including legal, boundary, topographic, and high-precision construction surveys.
  • Transfer information from field to office with meticulous notes and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, PMs, and internal teams to keep projects moving forward.

The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking a Party Chief to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Reporting to the Division Manager of McElhanney’s Electrification group, you will lead and coordinate field survey crews, ensuring projects are delivered safely, accurately, and efficiently while meeting contractual, regulatory, and client requirements.

In this role, you will work on a diverse range of projects, including resource industry facilities, pipelines, legal surveys, and construction projects throughout Alberta. What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to understand project objectives, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client requirements.
  • Lead and direct field crews, communicating project scope, timelines, and expectations to ensure successful project execution.
  • Conduct a variety of surveys, including:
  • Legal surveys for the oil and gas and electrification industries.
  • Boundary surveys
  • Topographic surveys
  • High-precision construction surveys
  • Work closely with clients, Project Managers, and internal teams to identify solutions and keep projects moving forward effectively.
  • Manage accurate transfer of information between the field and office, maintaining detailed field notes, records, calculations, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards, safety policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support an inclusive culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
  • A two-year technical diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, combined with a minimum of two years of experience in a similar role; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working in remote and challenging field environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical capability to work in mountainous, forested, and uneven terrain, and to safely handle and transport survey equipment.
  • Flexibility to work in varying weather conditions, remote locations, wildlife-populated areas, and on extended rotations or irregular schedules when required.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroSurvey, and Trimble Business Center is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Underground Utility Locating is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, reliability, and general computer proficiency.
What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
