Job summary

Homes First Society seeks Part-time Personal Support Workers for the 90 Shuter, 24-hour Housing Program. You will support residents with meals, hygiene, medication reminders and community activities in a busy housing program. The role requires PSW certification or equivalent, knowledge of mental health, and experience with or willingness to assist homeless populations.

Shifts include day, evening and overnight; ASAP start. 28.76 CAD/hour. Equal opportunity employer; background checks required.

Qualifications

• PSW certification or equivalent required.
• Experience with mental health issues and homeless populations is preferred.
• First Aid/CPR/Crisis Prevention certificates required.
• Ability to work rotating day/evening/overnight shifts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with meals, housing tasks (residency, room cleaning, grooming, hygiene, laundry), and health monitoring.
• Escort and/or accompany clients to medical, psychiatric, dental, and diagnostic appointments as needed.
• Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrate excellent time management and collaboration with teams.
• Maintain accurate client records and daily progress notes.
• Perform other duties as required by the program.

Mission Statement: Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

Salary:

$28.76 per hour

This position assists clients who are housed within Homes First Society’s 90 Shuter, 24-hour Housing Program, to maintain optimal health and mental health stability, while adhering to the mission statement and policies & procedures of Homes First Society.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Assist clients with residency, meals, room cleaning, grooming and hygiene, laundry, recreational and leisure activities and health monitoring
• Arrange, remind and/or escort clients to medical, psychiatric, dental and diagnostic appointments and/or treatments
• Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Excellent time management skills
• About to work independently and in inter-dependent teams
• Update client files accordingly, keep accurate records and document daily information
• Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Personal Support Worker Certification or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of mental health issues and several years’ experience working with people with mental health issues.
• Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention
• Ability to work shifts.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with the homeless population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness an asset
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub’s Harm Reduction for the Homelessness

Sector considered an asset.

Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required. Working in a pet friendly environment.
