PART-TIME OPERATOR (OIT to LEVEL 4) COMPETITION NO.: PWE-2025-21

Duties

  • Report directly to the Chief Operator of Wastewater Operations and fill in for operations relief.
  • Monitor and regulate levels in all various wet wells, tanks and digesters.
  • Monitor and regulate all treatment processes within the two (2) wastewater plants and respective wastewater pumping stations.
  • Monitor and regulate all chemical dosages and conduct various tests for efficiency.
  • Monitor and sustain biological processes at the two (2) wastewater treatment plants.
  • Standardize and calibrate, as prescribed, all chemical test equipment.
  • Record all test results and maintain entries in a digital format.
  • Must maintain a digital log book for all standard and emergency operational conditions and validate and reconcile all reported numerical values, flows, run hours, etc.
  • Assist in performing general maintenance activities for all mechanical equipment for plant and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Perform the cleaning and unplugging of pumping station wet wells, clarifiers, grit tanks, digesters and pumps and other equipment as required.
  • Janitorial duties of all facilities including outside maintenance (snow clearing around entrances to buildings and walkways around tanks of various description).
  • Fill out log books and maintenance records at all the remote pump stations.
  • Collect and analyse wastewater samples as per Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Communicate with various outside service providers, contractors and other agencies as required.
  • Perform on call duty as scheduled and respond to emergencies in the systems after completion of training.
  • Able to work rotating shifts including weekends.
  • Required to participate and support the City of Timmins Continuous Improvement Program in order to help foster a culture of operational excellence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Must have a Ministry of Environment Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection Operator-in-Training (OIT) licences. If OIT certified, must be willing to obtain Class 1 certifications.
  • College Diploma in Environmental Studies or Chemical Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of environmental processes.
  • Must have and maintain a valid unrestricted “G” driver’s license.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, follow written and oral instructions and complete records.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and SCADA systems an asset.
  • Current WHMIS Certificate.
