Job summary

Oxford Learning North York Willowdale is seeking a part-time teacher-tutor for high school math and science in North York Willowdale. You will work with up to three students, following pre-planned lessons and the Oxford Learning philosophy.

Ideal candidates have a relevant degree, strong math and science knowledge, and the ability to communicate clearly in English. Evening availability and a willingness to commit through the school year are important.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field.
• Teaching certification is an asset.
• Some tutoring experience with high school math and science is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach up to three students at a time using pre-planned lessons.
• Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and document post-lesson notes.
• Provide daily student communication updates and maintain professionalism.

Oxford Learning North York Willowdale is currently seeking part-time teacher-tutors for a role in our learning centre.

This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Teacher-Tutors at Oxford Learning do not have to lesson plan before class, as all lessons are pre-planned. Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

• Availability during after-school and evening hours (3:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
• Available for a minimum of 2 evenings/week
• Commitment through to the end of the 2026-2027 school year (June 30th), with the possibility of continuing through the summer
• In-person instruction
• Ability to commute to the designated location - relocation packages are not available
• Mandatory vulnerable sector screening

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
• Fourth year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered
• Teaching certification an asset
• Good knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum, particularly senior math and including, but not limited to, Advanced Functions, algebra, trigonometry and Calculus, as well as vectors, physics, chemistry, and biology.

Experience

• Some experience teaching/tutoring math and science at a Grade 9 to 12 (or equivalent) level
• Strong English written and oral communication skills
• Strong math skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
• Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities (Position Details)

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

• Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
• Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
• Filling in post-lesson notes
• Completing daily student communication updates
• Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times
