Reporting to Director of Clinics & Placements, the incumbent develops, implements and manages unpaid clinical placements for students in Health Sciences programs including but not limited to : Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, (Full Time and Part Time), Personal Support Worker and various Allied Health programs for Barrie, Owen Sound, Muskoka and Orangeville. Specific duties include, but are not limited to :
Responsibilities
- Assisting students in obtaining and being successful in mandatory placements by explaining processes and protocols
- Recruiting, and arranging, appropriate placement agencies and maintaining the current agency directory
- Evaluating placements to ensure the opportunity aligns with the learning outcomes as designated by the specific program
- Facilitating the completion of College Student Employer Agreements including WSIB
- Ensuring documentation and records are current, accurate and organized
- Collecting and compiling clinical placement data using a computer database
- Creating and communicating reports / summaries of data as required
- Communicating with / between partners, students, faculty and employees of partner organizations and Georgian College
- Maintaining and enhancing partnerships, identifying scheduling or program conflicts and participating in advisory committee meetings
- Acting as a resource pertaining to student Clinical Preparedness permit for staff, faculty and students
- Supporting all 7 campus locations as needed
- All other duties as assigned, includes but not limited to assignments related to student placements
Qualifications
- Successfully completed a two-year post-secondary diploma in a regulated health profession and a member in good standing with the regulatory body
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in either a health care environment (e.g. hospital, acute mental health, etc.) or health sciences educational setting
- Strong computer skills using the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Demonstrated understanding of health agencies / organizations related to appropriate assignment of student Nursing placements
- Demonstrated understanding of scope of practice for regulated and unregulated health practitioners in Ontario
- Demonstrated ability to communicate information in a clear, concise manner
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
- Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
- Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated planning, coordinating and time management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy with thorough understanding of PHIPA and FIPA
- Access to private reliable transportation with the ability to travel, as required, to conduct site visits and attend meetings
- Previous experience coordinating student placements within the health care sector
- Experience tracking and maintaining data and records within a student placement software / database, preferably Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet)
