Job description

Northern Gateway Public Schools invites applications for a Part‑time (0.625 FTE) Education Assistant at Onoway Jr/Sr High School, Onoway, Alberta.

Successful candidate responsibilities:
  • Under supervision of the Inclusive Education Facilitator, and classroom teacher, the successful candidate will provide educational support to students
Preference will be given to candidates who:
  • have a current Health Care Aide Certificate and First Aid Certificate
  • are able to provide personal and hygiene care to students; this may include food preparation, dressing, grooming and/or toileting
  • are able to assist student with mobilization (walking, guidance in hallway, or stairs)
  • are able to manipulate assisted devices if necessary (braces, mechanical lifts, fasteners on clothing, seatbelts)
  • are able to support students with potential physical or medical needs, mental health, social emotional needs
  • will establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff
  • work collaboratively and cooperatively with the teacher and other support staff in the classroom/school
  • understand and carry out both oral and written directions
  • respect and demonstrate confidentiality, and professionalism with all staff, students, parents and community members
  • are able to help students with mobility or motor skills as instructed by the Occupational or Physical Therapist and teacher
  • accompany student on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to student care and comfort
  • Training can be provided where needed to the successful candidate.

Hours:
  • Afternoons from 12:00 PM to 3:45 PM – 18.75 hours per week
