Job summary

Oxford Learning St. Thomas is seeking a part-time teacher-tutor for high school math and science in a small-group setting. Classes run after school hours (4pm–8pm) and Saturdays (9am–12pm).

You will guide students through the provided curriculum, report progress, and follow Oxford Learning methodologies. No prep work required as materials are provided. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with experience teaching or tutoring high school students and strong English

High School Math & Science Teacher/Tutor Wanted

Motivated by mathematics and science? Excited by equations and experiments? Eager to help students succeed?

Gain valuable teaching experience! Oxford Learning St. Thomas is currently seeking part-time teacher-tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas. Our program helps students with academic struggles while also developing cognitive skills - a love of teaching students HOW to learn is a must!

The Role

At Oxford Learning St. Thomas, we help students improve their academic and study skills in a small group setting. Our class sizes are small, with a maximum of three students per teacher. Our high school teachers explain and guide students through the provided material and support students with their schoolwork while teaching crucial learning skills and having fun. You will have flexibility in how you deliver the material to each student (in fact, we encourage that!), but you must follow all Oxford Learning philosophies and methodologies (training will be provided).

You will not be required to lesson plan or create learning materials for students - we do that for you! Your role includes reporting on concepts covered and cognitive skills discussed, monitoring and reporting on student progress, and ensuring student programming moves at an appropriate pace, all during your shift - you will never be expected to bring work home.

All classes at Oxford Learning St. Thomas take place during after-school hours, from 4pm - 8pm, as well as Saturdays from 9am - 12pm. High school students may start as early as 3pm based on teacher availability.

The Successful Applicant Is

• Available a minimum of two evenings per week beginning at 5pm (4pm preferred). Strong preference will be given to candidates who are available at 4pm at least one day per week.
• Comfortable working with students who work and learn “outside the box” - this includes students who have ADHD, Autism, MID, Dyslexia, and a variety of LDs.
• Willing to commit to the end of June 2027 (summer hours also available)
• Not afraid to take risks and ask questions
• Able to commute to St. Thomas reliably to work in-person (this is NOT an online position - relocation packages are not available)
• Able to provide a clear vulnerable sector check prior to working with students

Must Haves

• Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field (university students with tutoring experience will be considered)
• Ability to dynamically teach math and/or science to students in grades 9-12 at all levels
• Experience teaching or tutoring high school students
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English
• Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time
• Ability to guide students’ understanding of a variety of concepts
• Ability to stay calm and professional at all times

Nice To Haves

• Teaching certification in Ontario
• French written and oral communication skills
• Comfort with teaching elementary students (including both math and reading support)

Salary: $19 - $21 / hour

Schedule

• Monday to Thursday evenings
