Job summary

Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) invites applications for the part-time contract position of Cashier to join our Food Services team. This role supports a fast-paced café environment serving students, staff, and guests at Mona Campbell Square Café.

The Cashier will operate the register, prepare items, restock, and provide friendly service while upholding food safety standards and organizational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' experience providing excellent customer service.
• Previous experience operating cash registers and POS systems.
• Food Handler Certificate and Smart Serve Certification are assets.
• Strong numerical, organizational, and basic computer skills.
• Confidence in handling cash and payment transactions accurately.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced school and café environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Open and close café operations by stocking, replenishing, organizing, and preparing service areas throughout the day.
• Prepare and serve coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and beverages to students and customers.
• Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, and credit transactions.
• Maintain transaction records, reconcile cash, and assist with preparing deposits.
• Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service while answering questions and supporting guests.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary café and dining areas by following food safety and sanitation best practices.
• Monitor café supplies and help ensure service areas remain stocked and organized during busy service periods.
• Follow health & safety procedures and support a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and guests.
• Balance multiple tasks throughout shifts, including customer service, restocking, cleaning, and cashier responsibilities.
• Jump in wherever needed to support the team and contribute to the success of the Food Services Department.
• Take on other duties as assigned - we're all part of making the experience great.
