Municipality of Clarington is seeking a Part-Time Animal Care Attendant to join the Animal Services team. You will assist with care of impounded and quarantined animals, data entry, and promotion of the adoption program under supervision.

The role requires a certificate or diploma in Animal Care or Veterinary Assistant, ability to lift 18 kg, and flexibility to work weekends. Reporting to the Animal Services Supervisor, the position offers a front-line work model and local engagement.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Animal Care or Veterinary Assistant program, with a minimum of one year related experience.
  • Understanding of Provincial and Municipal legislation pertaining to animal care and treatment.
  • Knowledge of Clarington pet and animal by-laws (Responsible Pet By-law, Exotic Animal By-law, etc.).
  • Ability to lift an average of 18 kilograms on a regular basis.
  • Experience with Shelter management databases (ShelterBuddy, PetPoint, Chameleon).
  • Good written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and ability to drive municipal vehicle (if required).
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting animal housing areas and facility.
  • Conducting general physical/behavioral exams of all animals.
  • Feeding, general care, and medicating of animals under supervision.
  • Entering and maintaining animal information in Shelter Database.
  • Interacting with public and staff courteously and professionally.
  • Heavy lifting and standing for long periods; driving to vet and other tasks.
  • Provide general information to the public about Animal Services.
  • Perform general clerical duties including data entry, call dispatch, and answering phones.
