Job summary

REPORTS TO: Parks & Facilities Supervisor

LOCATION: Initial Placement – To Be Determined

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Secondary school education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ice resurfacing and equipment, grounds and equipment maintenance, indoor synthetic/outdoor turf maintenance and when deemed necessary commercial pool and splash pad operations
  • Good knowledge of facility operations, maintenance practices and procedures
  • Good communication, records management and interpersonal skills
  • General repair experience as it relates to mechanics, plumbing, carpentry etc.
  • Good safe work practices
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED and WHMIS training
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Acceptable Police Records Check
Assets: Any of the following:
  • Preference given to applicants who possess Basic Refrigeration Certification
  • Certified Ice Technician, Certified Pool Operator, Splash pad operation and certification, Park Maintenance and Operations Training, Registered Playground Practitioner, Ice Making and Painting Technologies, Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operations, Advanced Refrigeration, HVAC (R), Chainsaw Certification, and courses related to synthetic turf
  • Post Secondary Education in a recreation field
Facilities Operations Duties:
  • Involved in the operation and maintenance of the facilities and parks
  • Provide direct support to facility and parks users
  • Reviews assignments and event schedules for maintenance and use of facilities – ensures that facilities are ready for use and machinery and equipment are functioning properly
  • Ensures that facilities and parks are maintained in a safe, clean and attractive condition
  • Maintains outside grounds, sports fields, and playground areas
  • Involved in the installation of ice
  • Maintains ice surface through ice resurfacing, ice maintenance, ice thickness checks, and refrigeration system monitoring
  • Supervision of part-time and seasonal staff
  • Handling of cash and payments for rentals, concession
  • Handling of inquiries for rentals
  • Assist in the ordering of maintenance and canteen supplies
  • Maintains discipline amongst users and patrons
  • Assists in ensuring that Occupational Health and Safety practices, policies and procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Ensures that fire prevention practices and regulations are adhered to
  • Assists in performing facility and program supervisory functions, including resolving issues that may arise
  • Documenting of maintenance duties, rentals, daily routines, emergency services, health and safety practices
  • Preparing and serving food in snack bar as required
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Hourly Rate: $25.91 (Probationary) $32.12 (Full-time)

Hours per Week: 40 hours per week – rotating shift work including weekends & evenings
