Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate caring patient person with an upbeat attitude and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. The Parent Support Worker will assist the Maternal Child Health Program by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and families with infants and young children by focusing on culture role-modeling and healthy teachings by linking community resources. Working 7.5 - hour shifts (Overtime may be required). S / he will provide in-home support such as basic infant care infant stimulation fostering healthy child development self-care and coping as a parent offering hands-on approach to learning and supportive mentoring as a peer. Advocate refer and act as a liaison for families. Work closely with Health Care Professionals and working with the Public Health Nursing & Health Team to provide and deliver programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • In-home support utilizing a strength-based model with families who have children between the ages of 0-6 years;
  • Teach individuals and group about health promotion topics;
  • Assist the Community Health Nurse to provide and deliver programs and services;
  • Advocate refer and act as a liaison for families;
  • Work closely with other Health Care Professionals;
  • Planning and delivering workshops community education events;
  • Developing of appropriate awareness materials; administering the nutrition coupon program;
Education
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate (Combination of Education and experience may be considered);
Licenses
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Other Education and Training
  • Growing Great Kids (GGK) Curriculum training is an asset or willing to obtain;
  • Certified First Aide & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate required or willing to obtain;
  • Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants & / or young children is an asset;
Competencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Able to work independently be self-directed and demonstrate organizational skills;
  • Experience working with First Nations Communities an asset;
Knowledge and Abilities
  • The ability to speak / understand Cree a definite asset;

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check Vulnerable Sector Screening and Drivers Abstract is required upon hire. Since this position is engaged primarily in serving the interests of First Nations people Lac La Ronge Indian Band shall give preference to First Nations people who possess the requisite skill sets and experience.
