Position Overview

Granville College is seeking an experienced and passionate Paralegal Instructor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in paralegal studies, preparing students for rewarding careers in the legal field. This role requires a strong foundation in British Columbias legal system, practical paralegal experience, and a commitment to student success through mentorship, professional guidance, and innovative teaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lectures and practical training in paralegal studies, including legal research, drafting legal documents, litigation procedures, and ethics.
  • Teach British Columbias legal system, including relevant laws, regulations, and court procedures.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in legal software such as Clio, PCLaw, and Amicus Attorney.
  • Facilitate case studies, mock trials, and real-world legal scenarios to enhance applied learning.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, examinations, and practical evaluations.
  • Mentor and provide career guidance to support students transitioning into the legal profession.
  • Stay current with industry trends, legislative changes, and best practices in paralegal work.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to develop, review, and enhance course materials.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and professional learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution. A combination of formal education and significant professional experience may be considered.
  • Licensed and practicing Paralegal in good standing in British Columbia.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant experience working as a paralegal or legal professional in BC.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of British Columbias legal system, court procedures, and administrative processes.
  • Proficiency in legal research, legal writing, and case management software (e.g., Clio, PCLaw, Amicus Attorney).
  • Strong understanding of legal ethics, confidentiality, and professional responsibility.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and support diverse learners.
  • Experience with instruction, training, or mentoring in an academic or professional setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Canvas, considered an asset.
  • Experience in curriculum or program development considered an asset.
