SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is part of the Maintenance Team. The role involves the effective operation and maintenance of the facility, focusing on patching, painting, planned maintenance, and graffiti removal. The technician must be capable of working in high-hazard, high-security correctional institutional settings.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Paint, patch, sand, and apply coatings and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.
  • Estimate material quantities by measuring surfaces or reviewing work orders.
  • Respond to client work orders and planned preventive maintenance projects.
  • Create budgets and work estimates for management regarding planned projects.
  • Remove old coatings using solvents, heat, sanding, wire brushing, or water and sandblasting.
  • Complete drywall repairs and patching.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting or wallpapering by cleaning, filling holes, cracks, and sanding.
  • Apply primer, sealer, or sizing as needed before finishing.
  • Match colors with premixed paints or by mixing pigments and additives.
  • Use brushes, rollers, or spray guns to apply liquid coatings on various surfaces.
  • Perform sandblasting and apply industrial coatings.
  • Apply finishes with sponging, ragging, or layering techniques.
  • Install wallcoverings such as paper, vinyl, or fabrics.
  • Stay informed about product changes and recommend upgrades.
  • Follow environmental regulations and legislation.
  • Assist team members with additional duties like furniture moves, equipment insulation, and quality checks.
