Job summary

The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto seeks a PACS Administrator to manage day-to-day PACS/RIS operations within the radiology/DI environment. You will install, implement, and support PACS/RIS while collaborating with vendors to shape future releases.

You will train clinicians and staff on PACS/DIR applications, ensure efficient image workflow, and maintain data quality and imaging integration across departments.

Qualifications

We are currently recruiting for a PACS Administrator to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for the management of day-to-day production and support for the PACS/RIS application. You will manage all activities related to the installation, implementation, and use of the PACS/RIS. You will work directly with users to understand current need and help predict needs as they relate to PACS/RIS and the effective operation of the department. Finally, in this role you will become a link to the respective vendor's marketing and development organizations in order to channel the hospital's needs to be incorporated in future software releases.

Here's What You'll Get To Do
  • Provide exceptional technical knowledge, hardware configuration, support and solutions related to the application components of the PACS/RIS system and all other DI applications.
  • Provide end user support as well as help to define the proper workflow for optimal use of the application.
  • Conduct testing in collaboration with various vendors on new implementations and system upgrades in order to detect and prevent errors before the cut over to production.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the PACS/RIS vendors to ensure that the hospital requirements are maintained.
  • Conduct training of clinicians, residents, fellows and admin staff for DIR related applications in order to benefit from the latest changes and features.
  • Provide front end support for DI-r/OCINET (Government initiative for sharing Digital imaging and reports within the Province).
  • Coordinate team resources to best address workload and ensure day to day applications management.
  • Provide the ongoing quality assurance of the PACS monitors (by making sure that all Diagnostic quality monitors are properly calibrated).
  • Prepare reports for administration on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriate or directed.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, and prefetching and other related activities.
  • Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.
  • Works closely with radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations.
  • Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
  • Performs other functions as required and/or assigned.
Here's What You'll Need
  • Computer Science degree or a degree in related healthcare discipline or information systems discipline strongly preferred.
  • PACS Certification is preferred.
  • Keen understanding of diagnostic imaging and clinical digital imaging techniques.
  • Previous PACS/RIS experience in other institutions as well as an understanding of the modality devices and the DICOM standards is an asset.
  • Basic networking skills capable to help troubleshooting any potential network issues.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects.
