Job summary

McCain Foods (Canada) in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick, is seeking a Packaging Operator to safely set up, operate and changeover packaging equipment, ensuring product quality and compliance with GMPs.

You will work rotating shifts, perform quality checks, maintain supplies, and participate in training and cross-training of packaging lines to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Knowledge of computer operations is an asset.
  • Experience operating packaging machinery is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform physical work up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and perform changeovers on packaging machinery.
  • Operate and replenish Wexxar case formers and tape machines.
  • Perform quality checks on machine operations, materials, and product codes.
  • Maintain tool shadow boards, changeover carts, box supplies, and tape inventory.
  • Complete production and quality documentation accurately and ensure product codes are correct.
  • Support KPIs and team goals within SQCDPE framework.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in packaging areas.
  • Follow GMPs and all safety requirements.
  • Participate in training and cross-training on additional packaging equipment.
  • Identify safety concerns and process improvement opportunities.

About The Role.

The Packaging Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, monitoring, and changeover of packaging equipment within a manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, maintaining operational standards, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and achieving production targets while adhering to safety and food quality requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing.
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and perform changeovers on packaging machinery, including computerized equipment.
  • Operate and replenish Wexxar case formers and tape machines to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Perform quality checks on machine operations, materials, and product codes to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain tool shadow boards, changeover carts, box supplies, and tape inventory.
  • Complete production and quality documentation accurately and ensure product codes are correct.
  • Support SQCDPE objectives by understanding key performance indicators (KPIs) and contributing to team goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards within the packaging area and assigned workspaces.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and all food safety, quality, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, training programs, and cross-training opportunities on additional packaging equipment.
  • Identify and communicate safety concerns, operational issues, and opportunities for process improvements.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful.
  • Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Knowledge of computer operations is considered an asset.
  • Experience operating packaging machinery is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 30 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond calmly to unexpected situations.
  • Adaptability and willingness to embrace change in day-to-day operations.
  • Successful completion of all required training, including Wexxar equipment training.
  • Willingness to cross-train and operate additional packaging equipment as required.

The Packaging Operator is part of the manufacturing operations team and works closely with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership team members to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality packaging operations. This role contributes to overall plant performance through collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Compensation Package:

Starting at $25.13 CAD hourly + bonus eligibility + hourly pay differential for applicable shifts
