Job summary

FedEx is seeking a Package Handler to perform manual loading, unloading and sorting of packages in a fast-paced environment. You may rotate through roles such as Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, SWAK, QA and more, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Responsibilities include lifting 5–50 pounds, operating hand-held scanners, and maintaining efficient workflow across multiple stations. Training will be provided and shift patterns may vary.

Job description

Responsible for the physical loading, unloading and/or sorting of packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and placing, in a safe and efficient manner. Package Handlers (PHs) may be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions such as Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, Scan Weigh and Key (SWAK), Quality Assurance (QA), Facer, Switcher, etc.

Specialized PH assignments include:

• Package Handler Trainer: Trains other PHs on loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanning techniques to ensure efficient and safe movement of packages through the operation.
• Package Handler – Air: Responsible for a multi-step package inspection process to ensure packages that are "Air Restricted" are not loaded into an air container.

Essential Functions

• Utilizes hand-to-surface methods for all package handling.
• Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts and load gratings.
• Lifts, carries, pushes and pulls packages on a continuous and repetitive basis for approximate shift of 3–5 hours.
• Scans packages, reads labels and charts, verifies numbers and sorts packages accordingly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No minimum education required.
• No prior experience required.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Must be able to lift and carry between 5 and 50 pounds.
• Will need to work in hot and cold temperatures and in an environment with loud noise.

Schedule

1 PPT position. Shift: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:30 am–10:30 am, subject to change based on operational need.

No minimum education or experience required. Ability to follow instructions, discern numbers, and work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment. Valid driver's licence required for switching equipment operation.
