Job summary

Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC is seeking an evening/shift sewing associate to operate a sewing machine on the production line in Calgary. You will follow process steps to sew and finish panels, check sizing, and apply labels on each unit.

The role requires attention to detail and adherence to safety and efficiency standards. The position involves standing at the sewing station, lifting up to 50 lbs on occasion, and maintaining a clean workspace while supporting a Make-To-Order production flow.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• High School graduate or GED.
• Previous sewing machine experience in an industrial environment preferred but training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Push cart of panels to machine and follow Zone integrity.
• Remove panel from stack and position under sewing machine foot.
• Check ticket for sizing and measure panel.
• Sew flange to panel and overcast edge in one operation around perimeter.
• Insert and sew in legal label and production ticket on selected panels; mark IDs on tickets.
• Maintain machine and replace needles, oil machine, and fix thread breaks as needed.
• Monitor stitching quality and repair defects.
• Notify supervisor when defects arise from machine malfunction.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Push cart of panels to machine/follow Zone integrity.
• Remove panel from stack and position with flange under sewing machine foot.
• Check ticket for sizing and measure panel
• Activate machine and sew flange to panel and overcast edge in one operation around perimeter of panel.
• Insert and sew in legal label and production ticket on every other panel. Mark ID on tickets
• As required: add thread, roll of flange material, replace needles, oil machine, fix thread breaks and aside scrap.
• Observe stitching to detect defects and repair accordingly and check panel before and after sewing for flaws in materials and stitching
• Notify production supervisor when defects are caused by machine malfunction.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area
  

Functional/Technical Competencies

• Must stand at sewing machine however may walk as needed
• Must be able to lift to 20lbs
• Produce at level to maintain integrity of Make-To-Order System

Experience/Education

• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Basic English, Reading/Writing Skills
• High School graduate or Equivalent / GED
• Previous sewing machine experience in an industrial environment preferred however will train.

Job Factors/Work Environments
Requires working at a minimum of 100% efficiency level. Work is repetitious and involves lifting product (up to 50lbs) on a regular basis. Work involves exposure to usual hazards found in a manufacturing environment.
