Position: Arabic Speaking Outreach Case Manager

We are looking for a motivated Arabic Speaking Outreach Case Manager to join our team. Not sure if you’re 100% qualified? We encourage you to apply anyway!

Position function

The Outreach Case Manager provides wraparound case management services to refugee and immigrant youths and families. The Outreach Case Manager provides comprehensive case planning, outreach and support to clients coping with multiple barriers to their settlement. The Case Manager will help empower refugee/immigrant youth and families towards the goals of greater independence and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Perform outreach to high-needs refugees and immigrants and determine client eligibility
  • Conduct a comprehensive needs/strengths assessment for each client
  • Refer ineligible clients
  • Develop, revise and support client action plans that set goals to achieve during the service period
  • Assist and facilitate clients in implementing their action plan
  • Plan, organize and conduct settlement and life skills orientation sessions one-on-one or in groups
  • Plan, organize and conduct groups and activities for social and emotional support if necessary
  • Provide continuous case monitoring and follow-up and prepare clients exiting the program
  • Organize and participate in client case-conferencing with participating organizations
  • Provide settlement counselling and practical assistance to clients
  • Link and refer clients to various services and provide ongoing liaison support
  • Perform home visitation, community outreach, accompaniment and supported access to external services through cultural brokerage
  • Update and maintain accurate up-to-date case files and notes; document service and counselling activities daily in the prescribed format
  • Collect statistical information and produce or assist in the preparation of reports to meet contractual requirements
  • Keep the program coordinator and/or manager informed of the achievement of outputs and outcomes
  • Contribute to program planning and facilitation of group work (life skills orientation, recreational outings and emotional/social support groups)
  • Administer and support volunteers in support of group activities if necessary
  • Collaborate with partner providers to deliver a seamless service experience for clients
  • Participate in marketing activities as required
  • Provide back-up for designated staff as required
  • Participate in supervision, departmental, all-staff and relevant community meetings, in-service training and other training
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or high school education with a certificate/diploma in an appropriate area such as community social services, community development, or equivalent experience
  • A valid and satisfactory criminal record check is required
  • Language competence: In addition to English proficiency (minimum North American Grade 10 or assessed CLB level 6 for reading, writing, speaking and listening or equivalent TOEFL/IELTS), candidates must also be able to speak Arabic as a second language; fluency in Arabic is required
  • Strong working knowledge of settlement and integration issues facing vulnerable immigrant and refugee youth, young adults and families
  • Solid understanding of mental health issues affecting vulnerable immigrant and refugee youth and their families
  • Knowledgeable about local community resources and how to use those resources for the benefit of clients
  • Good knowledge of BC systems and the capacity to connect clients to mainstream services
  • Experience in cross-cultural communication and service methods for clients with low literacy and low English skills
  • Experience working with clients suffering from social, emotional and mental health issues
  • Experience and a strong understanding of case planning and case management principles and techniques
  • Experience in teaching Life Skills, Literacy and Essential Skills
  • Experience with youth program planning, organizing recreational activities and social events
  • Training in facilitation and grassroots support groups
  • Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to work in a team with internal and external stakeholders
Compensation

$28.58 - $29.25 per hour

Hours

35 hours per week; some evenings and weekends may be required.

The successful candidate may be permitted to work in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and remote work). This job is required to be fully on-site 4 days per week for the first 6 months. Approximately 75% of the job will be performed out of office. The role requires travel to clients’ homes and accompanying clients using public transit to appointments. The successful candidate must be able to commute to the Highgate location at 310 & 315 - 7155 Kingsway Burnaby.

Benefits

A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
