Job summary

The YMCA of Three Rivers is seeking an Outdoor Instructor at Camp Ki-Wa-Y’s Outdoor Centre in St. Clements, ON. This part-time contract position supports outdoor education programs, ropes courses, archery, and ecological activities for various groups.

You will ensure safety, host engaging experiences, and contribute to program development. Travel is required across the region; a valid G license and reliable transport are recommended.

Qualifications

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check completed within the past 6 months.
  • National Lifeguard certification is an asset.
  • Challenge Course/High Ropes training and experience is an asset.
  • G driver's license and access to a vehicle recommended.
  • Experience working with children and adults in camps or outdoor education settings.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outdoor education and recreation programs for diverse groups (schools, youth organizations, teams, adults).
  • Facilitate activities: high/low ropes, archery, orienteering, fire building, shelter building, team challenges.

As an Outdoor Instructor, you’ll dive into thrilling outdoor experiences that ignite a love for learning and foster deeper connections. Our offered programming will give you the opportunity to lead guided hikes, ecological lessons, team building activities, and even conquer exhilarating low and high ropes courses. Rain or shine, you’ll engage with students and guests of all ages and abilities, bringing the magic of nature to life.

The Outdoor Centre at Camp Ki-Wa-Y hosts thousands of guests from diverse backgrounds throughout the season. What you will do…
  • Deliver outdoor education and recreation programs for a variety of groups, including schools, youth organizations, sports teams, and adult participants. Facilitate activities such as high and low ropes courses, archery, orienteering, fire building, shelter building, and team-building initiatives.
  • Ensure the safety of participants by actively monitoring programs and responding promptly to concerns or incidents.
  • Act as a host and facilitator, creating positive experiences and ensuring participant satisfaction with programs, facilities, and services.
  • Assist with site maintenance, cleanliness, and other operational duties as required.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Support the development, promotion, and evaluation of outdoor education and leadership programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
What you will bring…

  • Previous experience working with children and adults in settings such as classrooms, after-school programs, outdoor education centres, camps, or similar environments.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Strong professionalism and ability to serve as a positive role model.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check within the past six months.
  • National Lifeguard certification is considered an asset.
  • Challenge Course/High Ropes training and experience is considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnights on call.
