Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

Calian is seeking an Orthopaedic Surgeon to work part time at CFB Edmonton. This position offers Physicians a unique opportunity to work with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members without having to become members themselves.

Responsibilities
  • Providing general orthopaedic consultation service to CAF members on a referral basis
  • Performing comprehensive diagnosis, medical management, and rehabilitation of patients
  • Determining procedures for preoperative and postoperative care, applying surgical procedures, and coordinating operation with anesthesiologist
  • Participating as a member of the multidisciplinary team for case conference when on-site
  • Practicing as a member of a multidisciplinary team and consulting with members of other health professions as appropriate in order to ensure the health care needs of CAF members are met
  • Practicing in accordance with the Canadian Armed Forces' Spectrum of Care, Drug Benefit List and Code of Ethics
Qualifications
  • Licensed and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Experience with orthopaedic surgery on lower extremities
  • Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)
  • Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR/AED Level C Certification
Additional Requirements
  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
  • CF Basic Aviation and Dive Medicine Certification is considered an asset but not mandatory.
