Job summary

Mainland Excavation & Shoring is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to support excavation and deep foundation projects on construction sites. The role requires operating 200–400 size excavators, maintaining equipment, and working with the Foreman on various site tasks including utility installations and grading.

Applicants should have at least one year of relevant experience, a valid Class 5 license, and strong safety and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year as an excavator operator on bulk/detailed excavations or civil utility works.
  • Experience with 200–400 size excavators is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and ability to travel region-wide.
  • Strong safety mindset and ability to work with a team on site.
  • Ability to read grading plans and drawings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely on construction sites and promote a safe environment.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
  • Maintain pre-trip inspections and activity logs.
  • Operate excavator to support bulk and detailed excavations, utility installs, grading, ditching, and sloping.
  • Communicate progress and issues to the Foreman and crew.

Job description

Mainland Excavation & Shoring is hiring! We are looking for experienced Operators to join our team.

The Excavator Operator will be responsible for operating an excavator in construction sites to support Excavation and Deep Foundations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance and safety inspections of their assigned piece of equipment as outlined in Mainland’s equipment policy
  • Responsible for Maintaining pre-trip inspections/activity logs
  • Operators are to operate their equipment in a manner as not to cause damage to the equipment or any surrounding structures or impediments and to do so safely to ensure the safety of themselves and others onsite
  • Operators are expected to work with the Foreman to perform various tasks including but not limited to, excavations both bulk and/or detailed excavation, utility installations, grading, ditching, sloping etc. in accordance with the project specifications
  • Ensure effective communication on progress and any potential issues are brought to the attention of the Foreman/ crew
Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
  • Must have minimum of one year experience as an excavator operator in bulk and detailed excavations or experience operating on civil utility works.
  • Current experience operating 200 - 400 size Excavators
  • Understand grading plans/stakes and drawings is a benefit
  • Must possess valid Class 5 Driver's License and be able to travel to sites across region.
  • Maintain quality results of work to be done.
  • Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
  • Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
  • Work as a team with other crew members on daily activities of the site.
  • First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset.
  • Understanding of Safety and ability to communicate Safety issues as they arise
  • Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all shift standing, walking, lifting and carrying, working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
  • Flexibility with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and possibly work across both our divisions (deep excavation and civil site services)
  • Must be local to the Lower Mainland
What we offer
  • Unionized base wage of $41.33 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate's experience), plus 13% of gross earnings for vacation / statutory holiday pay.
