Job summary

Mainland Excavation & Shoring is hiring experienced Excavator Operators to join our construction team on diverse projects in the Lower Mainland region.

As an Excavator Operator, you will operate 200–400 size machines, perform daily safety checks, maintain logs, and work with the Foreman on dig layouts, utilities, grading and site duties, while prioritizing safety and quality.

Local candidates with a valid Class 5 license encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of excavator experience on bulk/detailed excavations or civil utility works.
  • Experience operating 200–400 size excavators.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel to sites.
  • Must be physically fit to work outdoors in all weather.
  • Willingness to overtime and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators safely on construction sites per project specs.
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Maintain pre-trip inspections and activity logs.
  • Coordinate with Foreman on digging, grading, utilities and site tasks.
  • Communicate progress and issues to Foreman/crew.
  • Travel to sites across the region as needed.

Job description

Mainland Excavation & Shoring is hiring! We are looking for experienced Operators to join our team.

The Excavator Operator will be responsible for operating an excavator in construction sites to support Excavation and Deep Foundations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance and safety inspections of their assigned piece of equipment as outlined in Mainland’s equipment policy
  • Responsible for Maintaining pre-trip inspections/activity logs
  • Operators are to operate their equipment in a manner as not to cause damage to the equipment or any surrounding structures or impediments and to do so safely to ensure the safety of themselves and others onsite
  • Operators are expected to work with the Foreman to perform various tasks including but not limited to, excavations both bulk and/or detailed excavation, utility installations, grading, ditching, sloping etc. in accordance with the project specifications
  • Ensure effective communication on progress and any potential issues are brought to the attention of the Foreman/ crew
Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
  • Must have minimum of one year experience as an excavator operator in bulk and detailed excavations or experience operating on civil utility works.
  • Current experience operating 200 - 400 size Excavators
  • Understand grading plans/stakes and drawings is a benefit
  • Must possess valid Class 5 Driver's License and be able to travel to sites across region.
  • Maintain quality results of work to be done.
  • Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
  • Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
  • Work as a team with other crew members on daily activities of the site.
  • First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset.
  • Understanding of Safety and ability to communicate Safety issues as they arise
  • Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all shift standing, walking, lifting and carrying, working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
  • Flexibility with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and possibly work across both our divisions (deep excavation and civil site services)
  • Must be local to the Lower Mainland

  • Unionized base wage of $41.85 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate's experience), plus 13% of gross earnings for vacation / statutory holiday pay.
