Job summary

The Corporation of the County of Lambton in Ontario is seeking four temporary full‑time Tandem Truck Operators to operate and maintain equipment, including snow plough systems, during winter operations and a tandem truck for the rest of the year. Responsibilities include safe operation, routine maintenance, communication of road conditions, and on-call emergency work.

Applicants should have a secondary school diploma and a valid Class DZ licence, with prior road/ construction equipment

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent in education and/or experience.
  • Current valid Province of Ontario Driver’s licence minimum Class DZ

Responsibilities

  • Operate assigned equipment as directed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Safely operate All Inclusive Snow Plough Equipment during the winter season and a tandem truck for the remainder of the year.
  • Responsible for upkeep of equipment, keeping machinery clean, refuelling, performing minor maintenance (i.e. greasing, oil changes) and repair, keeping the mechanic/equipment supervisor informed of the overall operating condition of the equipment.
  • Accurately communicate road conditions by radio to the supervisor, make periodic on-site decisions on sand and salt distribution as dictated by weather conditions.
  • Operate as a member of a crew or alone.
  • Assist in any other capacity, i.e. erecting snow fence, operating a chainsaw, pothole patching, grass cutting, etc.
  • Be on call for emergency work, normally during the winter operations season.
  • Receive complaints, concerns, etc. from property owners and the public in a professional and timely manner and refer to immediate Supervisor for action.
  • Maintain a daily diary of work activities as well as maintain equipment log and diary books as required by Provincial legislation and County policy

Education

About The Role

Duties

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Formal Education
  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent in education and/or experience
  • Current valid Province of Ontario Driver’s licence minimum Class DZ
Experience
  • Previous operating experience in construction or a road system is preferred
  • Most functions are based on skills learned on the job
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
