Job summary

TransAlta Corporation is seeking an Operations Technician to support the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Melancthon Wind Farm in Shelburn, Ontario. The role involves assisting wind turbines and balance of plant maintenance, supervising contractors, inventory management, and site support tasks.

This full-time, safety-sensitive position requires onsite work in Shelburn, Ontario, with pre-employment testing.

Qualifications

• Certification or verifiable experience in a relevant discipline.
• Valid Class G driver's licence.
• Technical understanding of wind farm operations.
• Knowledge of TransAlta’s business model.
• Ability to work independently in a multitasking environment.
• Troubleshoot electronic, mechanical and hydraulic problems.

TransAlta is seeking an Operations Technician to support the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Melancthon Wind Farm while applying operating and maintenance standards, procedures, and processes to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

As an operations technician, you will support Wind Technicians and the Supervisor in the safe and efficient operation of the wind farm by assisting with wind turbines and balance of plant preventive and corrective maintenance activities, supervising contractors, inventory and warehouse management, spare parts deliveries, and site support tasks. You will help maintain operational continuity by providing wind technician backfill coverage, supporting compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, and contributing to the execution of daily operations and maintenance plans. The role also requires collaboration with site personnel and support groups to promote reliability, operational performance, and continuous improvement.

This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position based in Shelburn, Ontario. Successful completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Support maintenance technicians & supervisor in achieving planned objectives assigned to the site.
• Responsible for inventory and stock levels.
• Travel to site to bring parts to wind turbine technicians as needed.
• Support maintenance of service vehicles.
• Ability to operate snow removal equipment occasionally.
• Any other task that would prevent a wind technician from focusing on the maintenance and operation of wind turbines.
• Backfill Wind Technicians during vacation periods to maintain operational coverage and support site activities.
• Support the daily operations and maintenance plan in accordance with the supervisor's management plan, promoting operational performance and continuous improvement.
• Ensure operational compliance with health & safety, environmental standards, ensuring adherence to applicable TransAlta operating procedures, policies and regulations and drive for results
• Contribute to a work environment that fosters collaboration within the team and support groups to ensure issues are resolved in a professional manner.
• To be appropriately trained, qualified and competent in the role and to undertake any other necessary training.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

• Appropriate certification or training in a relevant discipline, or concrete, verifiable experience and skills.
• Must possess a valid Class G driver's licence.
• Thorough knowledge of concepts and principles in own discipline and knowledge of other disciplines.
• Technical understanding of the operational aspects of a wind farm.
• Understanding of TransAlta's business model.
• Understand and mitigate risks present in facilities.
• Understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes and inventory management.
• Good understanding of the importance of coordinating efforts across related teams to achieve objectives.
• Demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
• Troubleshoot electronic, mechanical and hydraulic problems as required.
• Ability to work with a computer, iPad and iPhone, and thorough knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to support the development and management of the daily and annual plan.
• Ability to work independently and successfully in a multitasking environment with changing priorities.
• Work with high-pressure hydraulic torque tools and tensioning tools.
• Identify and mitigate risks and determine appropriate actions.

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$77,500 - CAD$95,600 at the time of this posting. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training. The top end of the range is reserved for individuals with exceptional, directly relevant expertise and a demonstrated history of strong performance within TransAlta. This range reflects base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits .
