Job summary

City Traffic Control is seeking an experienced Traffic Control Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, coordinate field crews, equipment, clients, and scheduling, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

This role combines field operations with office responsibilities and requires hands-on leadership, TMP familiarity, and a customer-focused mindset to drive growth and service quality.

Qualifications

  • Valid TCP (Traffic Control Person) ticket/certification.
  • Previous experience in a traffic control supervisory/foreman/coordinator/management role.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic signs, traffic control devices, road safety requirements, and traffic control procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs).
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC requirements and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of traffic control equipment, PPE, signage, cones, barricades, arrow boards, trucks, and other field equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service skills and ability to communicate with clients, contractors, municipalities, and field personnel.
  • Sales-oriented mindset with ability to identify new business opportunities and support growth.
  • Proficiency with computers, scheduling software, and basic accounting/invoicing systems.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team, work under pressure, and make quick decisions.
  • Willingness to be available outside regular hours for emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily traffic control operations, projects, crews, and field activities.
  • Schedule and dispatch Traffic Control Persons, supervisors, trucks, and equipment based on project needs.
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with TMPs and regulations.
  • Manage employee scheduling, attendance, timesheets, training, and certifications.
  • Maintain payroll, invoicing, timesheets, and project documentation.
  • Monitor and manage trucks, equipment, PPE, signage, and inventory.
  • Conduct field inspections and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Coordinate project requirements with contractors, municipalities, project managers, and clients.
  • Review and implement TMPs and address field traffic control needs.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of staff.
  • Support sales, quoting, estimating, and client relationship management.
  • Handle client communication, service requests, and project coordination.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, safety, customer service, and operations.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Traffic Control Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our traffic control company. The successful candidate will have hands‑on experience in the traffic control industry, strong knowledge of traffic management and safety requirements, and the ability to coordinate field crews, equipment, clients, documentation, and scheduling.

This position is ideal for someone who can confidently manage both field operations and office responsibilities, while maintaining high standards of safety, customer service, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid TCP (Traffic Control Person) ticket/certification and demonstrated experience working in the traffic control industry.
  • Previous experience in a traffic control supervisory, foreman, coordinator, or management role is strongly preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic signs, traffic control devices, road safety requirements, and traffic control procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and the ability to read, interpret, and implement them in the field.
  • Knowledge of WCB/WorkSafeBC requirements, workplace safety regulations, and industry‑specific safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic control equipment, PPE, signage, cones, barricades, arrow boards, message boards, trucks, and other field equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer‑service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with clients, contractors, municipalities, and field personnel.
  • Sales‑oriented mindset with the ability to identify new business opportunities, maintain client relationships, and support company growth.
  • Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, scheduling software, and basic accounting/invoicing systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, practical decisions when dealing with changing field conditions.
  • Ability to work independently while also effectively managing a team.
  • Willingness to be available outside regular hours when operational issues or emergencies arise.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate daily traffic control operations, projects, crews, and field activities.
  • Schedule and dispatch Traffic Control Persons, supervisors, trucks, and equipment based on project requirements.
  • Ensure traffic control work is performed safely and in accordance with TMPs, traffic control standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Manage employee scheduling, attendance, timesheets, training, certifications, and performance.
  • Maintain proper payroll, invoicing, billing, timesheet, work order, and project documentation.
  • Monitor and manage company trucks, traffic control equipment, PPE, signage, and inventory.
  • Conduct field inspections and ensure crews are following proper traffic control and safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC/WCB requirements and company safety policies.
  • Coordinate project requirements with contractors, municipalities, project managers, and clients.
  • Review and implement Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and address field‑related traffic control requirements.
  • Handle client communication, service requests, concerns, and project coordination.
  • Support sales, quoting, estimating, business development, and client relationship management.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of traffic control staff.
  • Coordinate vehicle and equipment maintenance and ensure all operational assets are ready for use.
  • Respond to scheduling changes, staffing issues, emergencies, and last‑minute client requirements.
  • Monitor operational efficiency, service quality, and project profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve company processes, safety practices, customer service, and overall operations.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the successful operation and growth of the company.

You should be comfortable managing crews, reviewing TMPs, coordinating schedules, dealing with clients, managing equipment and inventory, handling documentation, and supporting business development.
