Job summary

Regional District of East Kootenay is seeking an Operations Maintenance Worker 2 to perform routine maintenance and repairs of solid waste and park facilities at the Cranbrook office. You will conduct site inspections, assist with scheduling, and provide guidance to junior maintenance staff while ensuring safety and public interactions are professional.

The role requires knowledge of carpentry and building practices, parks equipment, and solid waste operations.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Building Maintenance Level 1 or Parks and Sports Fields Operator Level 1 or equivalent experience.
• Landfill Operations Basics (LOB) – SWANA Pacific Certificate.
• BC Driver’s Licence.
• First Aid Certificate.

POSITION FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager, the Operations Maintenance Worker 2 performs routine maintenance and repairs of solid waste and park facilities.

KEY DUTIES

• Performs construction maintenance and repair work to solid waste and parks facilities
• Conducts site inspections
• Provides guidance and direction to Operations Maintenance Worker 1
• Performs other related duties
• Computer literate.
• Engage with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies in a courteous manner.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of carpentry and building practices.
• Knowledge of parks, tools, and landscape equipment.
• Knowledge of solid waste materials, tools, equipment, and operations.
• Experience using tools and equipment related to maintenance of solid waste and park facilities.
• Organize work schedule to meet deadlines and priorities.
• Large degree of independent initiative and self-directedness.
• Work and operate equipment safely.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Possession of Building Maintenance Level 1 or Parks and Sports Fields Operator Level 1 or equivalent experience.
• Landfill Operations Basics (LOB) – SWANA Pacific Certificate.
• BC Driver’s Licence.
• First Aid Certificate

Experience

• One year experience including on the job experience with light duty construction, facility maintenance and / or parks operations.
