Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, physicians before, during and after endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor surgery procedures.
- Assist patients before, during and after procedures according to best practices and clinic procedures.
- Perform patient administration and charting according to clinic procedure.
- Prepare for appropriate procedures in the endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor procedure rooms.
- Clean and disinfect procedure rooms in accordance with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards.
- High level disinfect or sterilize endoscopes and cystoscope according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
- Sterilize all equipment according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
- Perform quality assurance test on equipment in medical device reprocessing department according to CSA standards.
- Perform equipment maintenance in MDRD and procedure rooms according to manufacture instructions and CSA standards.
- Maintain professional competence in practice by participating in workshops and conferences to learn current best practice in procedures and techniques.
- Follow the continuing competency program according to the provincial or territorial regulatory authority for LPN/RPNs.
- Follow CSA standards for the storage of medical supplies.
- Order medical equipment and supplies for medical device reprocessing department (MDRD) and procedure rooms.
- Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and security of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms according to CSA standards.
- Maintain stock of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms.
- Ensure that WHMIS standards are followed when working in MDRD and procedure rooms.
- Maintain records required for quality control and workload statistics; and
- Other associated tasks relevant to this occupational group.
Qualifications
- A Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio‑pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C. Annual recertification is required.
- A certificate from Medical Device Reprocessing Course with a minimum 3 years of experience within the last 5 years medical device reprocessing and endoscope reprocessing.
- Have a minimum 3 years of experience within the last 5 years working in an endoscopy, cystoscopy and minor procedure suites.
- Reached Operational Function Point as an OR Technician.
Additional Requirements
You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
