Your Opportunity

This is a shared position between the Operating Room and Minor Surgery Clinic. The employee will be responsible for providing perioperative patient care in an ambulatory setting, in accordance with CLPNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA Standards of Practice. The LPN/ORT will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care as an integral part of their surgical team. The LPN/ORT is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the Surgical Suite and Minor Surgery Clinic. The LPN/ORT promotes the professional role and evaluates own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The LPN/ORT will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The LPN/ORT is a patient advocate and provides a link between the units and the Surgical Suites and Minor Surgery Clinic.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

Successful completion of a Perioperative Course within the previous 5 years. 5 years direct OR experience without the Perioperative Course. Registered with CLPNA with Advanced Perioperative Nursing. Extent and type of past operating room experience may be considered if beyond five years. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Repeated contact with radiographic procedures and ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period. Demonstrates advanced problem‑solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgement. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team spirit.

Preferred Qualifications

At least 2 years of previous experience in an inpatient surgical unit. Experience in an operating room setting. Job Shadow in the Operating Room. Completion of Connect Care Training an asset.
