With this ambition, Veolia is integrating the City of Montreal's Waste Treatment Plan by taking over the operation, maintenance, and management of the new St‑Laurent Composting Centre (CSTL). This centre will play a crucial role in converting 50,000 tonnes of organic waste per year into compost, by valorising organic materials from Montreal residents.
Job Description
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Loader Operator will be responsible for transferring materials to transform organic waste supplied by the City of Montreal into high‑quality compost. Day and evening shifts are available.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely operate a front wheel loader (LIEBHERR L546Z or similar);
- Perform the inspection round and preventive maintenance of your equipment as recommended by the manufacturer, as well as monitor factory equipment during production to ensure the efficiency of operations and the safety of the factory;
- Start and stop production equipment. Check alarms and notify maintenance in case of a major problem;
- Receive and arrange the organic materials in the storage area and mix them using a wheel loader, hoppers, sieves and the mixer to ensure the conformity of the batch composition for optimal composting;
- Carry out the feeding and movement of batch material in the composting tunnels, maturation bins and the final storage area at successive stages of the process. Manage the sorting by‑products (Rejects and recycling);
- Collaborate on the cleaning, inspection and preparation plan for composting tunnels and maturation bins;
- Proactively monitor operating parameters (temperature and humidity) on the product during the process in order to make the necessary corrections;
- Perform quality sampling and record the required data on the production report;
- Inform the Team Leader of information to complete the daily production reports (duration and cause of stoppages, etc.);
- Carry out the loading of mature compost as well as unwanted treatment waste and residues into customer trucks according to the verification procedure (weighing and various checks before loading and shipping);
- Clean the production equipment (crusher, trommel and air separator);
- Collaborate in the cleaning and proactive maintenance of the lines and the plant to maintain a clean and safe environment. Complete the required inspection forms and inform the maintenance department of any apparent anomalies;
- To be proactive in maintaining a healthy and safe work environment. To immediately report to one's manager all incidents, non‑conformities, near misses, concerns and potential legal non‑conformities;
- Perform all other related tasks connected with the job.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience;
- General Health and Safety on Construction Sites (ASP) course (asset);
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in construction equipment operation or relevant experience;
- Experience in operating wheel loaders in an industrial environment (an asset);
- Skill in using computerized factory process control systems;
- Ability to write production reports and to communicate clearly in writing in French;
- Autonomy and Versatility: The candidate must be willing and able to assume various positions on a rotating basis. Ability to work closely with other members of the site's Operations team.
- Ability to manage one's work pace and be conscientious regarding operating procedures in order to achieve quality and productivity standards.
- Understanding training and procedural documents, such as safety rules and instructions relating to the operation of equipment;
- Drive and operate equipment while respecting the health and safety rules established by the company, including a wheel loader (loader) for one's own safety and that of colleagues who work near the machines being operated;
- Computer skills, particularly with the Google suite.
Work Environment
Permanent full‑time position, with day shifts (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) or evening shifts (2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
