Job Overview

Assist, mentor and participate with regular authorization training and examinations staff in the design, development, conduct, grading and administration written and simulator-based milestone evaluations, certifications examinations and requalification tests for certified operating staff such as Authorized Nuclear Operators (ANOs), Unit 0 Control Room Operators (U0 CROs), Control Room Shift Supervisors (CRSSs) and Shift Managers (SMs) and initial candidates for these positions.

Assist, mentor and participate with regular authorization training and examinations staff in the design, development, review and delivery of training courses/lectures and simulator demonstrations for the same certified operating staff and initial candidates for these positions.

JOB DUTIES
  • Act as lead evaluator / lead examiner or participate as a member of an evaluation / examination team in the design, development, conduct, grading and administration of written and simulator-based certification milestone evaluations, certification examinations and requalification tests.
  • Assist and mentor regular authorization training and examinations staff in the planning, conduct and administration of milestone evaluations, certification examinations and requalification tests.
  • Assist, advise, and mentor regular authorization training and examinations staff on teaching, evaluation, and examination techniques leading to improved standards.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of training material such as training objectives, lesson plans, course notes, overhead presentations, simulator exercise guides for certified operating staff and initial candidates.
  • Assist with the delivery of classroom or simulator-based training of certified operating staff and initial candidates.
  • Assist with and mentor regular authorization training and examinations staff and Operations supervisors in the evaluation of the certified operating staff and initial candidate performance in the simulator.
  • Discuss course and examination outlines with the Senior Training Managers, regular training and examinations staff, technical specialists and with external personnel such as Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), Candu Owners Group (COG) or World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) to gain alignment on training and examination expectations and requirements.
  • Develop and deliver classroom and simulator instruction to internal groups, such as authorization training and examinations staff, non-licensed operation staff and trainers, technical staff, external personnel, such as CNSC, COG and WANO, as requested by the Senior Training Manager. Liaise with such groups in training design, candidate performance and delivery feedback.
  • Maintain a current awareness of changes to station systems and operating documentation. Monitor station significant events and incorporate lessons learned into training courses. Periodically return to the plant to refresh/update plant and procedural knowledge.
  • Participate in the evaluation of operation and fidelity of training simulators and support simulator services personnel in simulator configuration management.
  • Complete continuing training program requirements for trainers and examiners to maintain own qualifications and proficiency.
SUPPLEMENTARY NOTES:
  • To be able to competently train, evaluate, examine and test authorized operation staff, the individual must have been previously licensed as an Authorized Nuclear Operator, Control Room Shift Supervisor or Shift Manager at the respective Nuclear Generating Station.
  • Ideally, the candidate has been previously qualified as an Authorization Training Supervisor or have participated in classroom or simulator-based training of authorized operating staff.
Qualifications
  • Must have been previously certified as a ANO, CRSS or SM at Darlington or Pickering Nuclear
  • Highly desirable to have been qualified and have demonstrated experience as a Simulator Instructor
  • Highly desirable to have been qualified and have demonstrated experience as an Initial Examiner or Recertification Examiner
  • Highly desirable to have been qualified and have demonstrated experience as a Lead Examiner for ANO and CRSS Initial Written and Simulator-based Certification Examinations.
