Please note that we are a high voltage electrical laboratory that tests, certifies, inspects, and repairs insulating rubber goods, utility tools, and equipment (live line tools, battery-operated and crimping tools, grounding equipment, etc.). We currently have a new opportunity for an energetic, hands-on Shop-Field Supervisor with a mechanical aptitude to join our team at our NAIL-accredited high voltage testing laboratory located in Edmonton.

The successful candidate excels in a fast-paced, technical environment, meeting the stringent demands of our customers within this recession-proof industry. Knowledge of power utility/electrical equipment and/or industry-related standards is a definite asset. Ability to quickly learn standards and working procedures is essential.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will schedule, direct, train, and work alongside a crew of technicians involved in various specialties both in the lab and in the field. Your responsibilities include maintaining production efficiency, coordinating work efforts to ensure customer satisfaction, and ensuring legislative compliance.

Principal Responsibilities
  1. Prioritize, schedule, assign, and coordinate the work of technicians and staff to accomplish duties related to inspection, testing, and repair of protective equipment both in the shop and at customer locations.
  2. Oversee and lead laboratory technicians, ensuring compliance with safety practices, LTL procedures, and standards such as ASTM, IEEE, CSA, CUL, and customer-specific requirements.
  3. Provide training, work direction, and guidance, including problem-solving support.
  4. Support and implement corporate training programs, including new employee onboarding, performance monitoring, and reviews.
  5. Evaluate products for testing, investigate standards and testing methods, and develop testing procedures for all serviced products.
  6. Determine needs for tools, equipment, materials, and supplies, and make recommendations for procurement.
  7. Oversee and conduct testing, inspection, and repair of insulating protective equipment and voltage detecting devices.
  8. Operate various tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  9. Communicate with customers regarding work progress and important issues, both in the lab and on-site as needed.
  10. Perform additional duties as required to meet company needs.
Education, Training & Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hand tools.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ASTM, IEEE, CSA, and CUL.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience/trades certification, with a minimum of five years related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
