Job summary

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is seeking an On-Call Lighting Technician for our Montreal Technical Studios. You will support setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting for rehearsals and performances, with flexible hours and exclusive on-site work at Cirque du Soleil headquarters.

Requirements include a minimum of two years in lighting tech, proficiency with GrandMA/ETC EOS, Vectorworks/Lightwright, and fluency in English and French.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Lighting Technician in live entertainment, theater, or events.
  • Proficiency with lighting consoles (GrandMA, ETC EOS) and familiarity with Vectorworks and Lightwright.
  • Solid understanding of DMX protocols, color theory, and fixture types.
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup, installation, and operation of lighting for rehearsals, performances, and events.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on lighting fixtures, cables, and control systems for safety and performance.
  • Troubleshoot issues and minimize downtime during shows and load-ins/load-outs.
  • Support repair and replacement of lighting equipment following safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with studios crew during load-ins, rehearsals, and technical rehearsals.

YOUR MISSION

We're looking for On-Call Lighting Technician to join our Montreal Technical Studios team. If you're ready to get involved in exciting projects with a global scope, you've come to the right place. Responsibilities

The On-Call Lighting Technician under the direction of the Head of Lighting / Sound / Video / FX, is responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Assist with the setup, installation, and operation of lighting equipment for rehearsals, performances, and special events;
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on lighting fixtures, cables, and control systems to ensure safety and optimal performance;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and malfunctions promptly, implementing solutions to minimize downtime during presentations;
  • Assist with the repair and replacement of lighting equipment as needed, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines;
  • Provide support and assistance during load-ins, load-outs, and technical rehearsals, collaborating closely with the studios crew members.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
  • Adhere to Cirque du Soleil's safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations related to electrical systems, rigging, and working at heights;
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses to the appropriate personnel and follow established protocols for incident management.
You Possess The Following Educational, Professional, And Technical Skills
  • Degree or diploma in Theater Production, Lighting Design, Electrical Engineering, or related field;
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Lighting Technician in live entertainment, theater, or events industry;
  • Proficiency in operating lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, ETC EOS) and familiarity with lighting software (e.g., Vectorworks, Lightwright);
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues under pressure;
  • Knowledge of lighting principles, including color theory, beam angles, fixture types, and DMX protocols.
  • Comprehension of basic principles of AC/DC electricity, power distribution, basic electronics, computer operations and networking as it pertains to lighting systems;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours;
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken;
