Job summary

CN is seeking a Safety Training Leader to ensure employees are trained to regulatory standards and to safeguard the safe and efficient delivery of customers' goods.

The role includes ongoing employee training, developing training plans, and collaborating with the Training Analyst. It requires travel, supports field mentoring, and involves working in office and field settings with a Monday–Friday routine and occasional weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of railway experience
  • Experience as Conductor, Locomotive Engineer, Rail Traffic Controller, or a combination
  • Equivalency of education, training and experience considered

Responsibilities

  • Train Transportation employees on operating rules, tasks and safety procedures, focusing on hazard awareness and exposure reduction
  • Instruct, mentor, and coach on USOR, CN Life Book, safety procedures and life-critical rules
  • Evaluate progress and ensure compliance with regulations, policies and standards
  • Maintain training facility equipment, job aids and LMS records
  • Complete performance and qualifying documents and capture training events in LMS
  • Maintain a comprehensive training plan and schedule to meet client expectations
  • Support training material development with the Training Analyst
  • Support field mentoring of Transportation employees
  • Participate in field audits and safety observations

Hiring Salary Range: $89900 - 118000

This range represents the hiring range. Salaries are determined individually depending on skills and experience. You will also be eligible to an annual bonus, employee share investment program (ESIP), Pension, Benefits and other perks.

Job Summary


The incumbent is responsible for acting as a safety leader to ensure employees are trained to perform within regulatory standards. The incumbent is also accountable for ensuring the safety and efficiency of customers' goods deliveries. The role requires carrying out ongoing employee training and development in order to maximize knowledge transfer and employee performance.

Main Responsibilities


Training and Development

  • Train Transportation employees on operating rules and instructions, job tasks, and safe work procedures, with a focus on hazard awareness and exposure reduction
  • Instruct, mentor, and coach employees on various topics such as United States Operating Rules (USOR), CN's Life Book, safe work procedures, and life critical rule understanding and application
  • Evaluate employee progress and ensure compliance with regulations, company policies, and standards
  • Maintain training facility equipment, job aids, and schedule maintenance records
  • Complete performance and qualifying documents as well as ensure all training events are captured in the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Maintain a comprehensive training plan and schedule to meet client expectations
  • Support training material development by working with the Training Analyst
  • Support the development of Transportation employees through regular field mentoring
  • Participate in field audits and safety observations
Working Conditions


The role has standard working conditions in an office and field environment with a regular work week from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires occasional travel (30 to 40%) to deliver trainings.

Experience


Railway

  • Minimum 5 years of railway experience
  • Experience working as a Conductor, Locomotive Engineer, Rail Traffic Controller or a combination of the above
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered
Education/Certification/Designation
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Successful completion of CN's medical assessment
  • Candidates with equivalent practical experience, education, or training will be considered
