Job summary

Sinai Health’s Reactivation Care Centre, an extension of Mount Sinai Hospital, seeks an Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant to support inpatient rehab. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide hands-on care, assist therapists with transfers and ADLs, and help patients in their recovery journey within a 16-bed unit.

You will document progress in the EHR, participate in rounds, and contribute to a safe, high-quality care environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited community college occupational therapy/physiotherapy assistant program.
• Minimum of one year of experience working in Rehab.
• Experience using an electronic health record.
• Proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver PTA/OTA care with knowledge, judgment and attitude.
• Assist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists with direct patient care (transfers, ambulation, ADLs).
• Supervise patients in routine exercise programs in group/individual settings.

About This Team

Our specialized 16 bed inpatient reactivation program is located on the beautiful and quaint UHN-RCC campus. The Sinai Health RCC program is designed for individuals who present with decreased mobility, independence and/or function as a result of an acute illness or surgery. We focus on patients with potential for functional improvement, providing tailored care plans and utilizing state-of-the-art tools to support their recovery journey. Depending on the reactivation goals patients typically experience an average length of stay of 30 to 60 days. You will collaborate with a high performing multi-disciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Nurse Practitioner, OT, PT, SW, and SLP to provide high quality and safe patient care.

In This Role You Will

• Possess the requisite knowledge, skills, judgment and attitude to deliver competent PTA/OTA care
• Assist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists with direct patient care including but not exclusive to: lifts, transfers, ambulation, basic and instrumental activities of daily living.
• Supervise patients in completion of routine exercise programs in both a group and individual setting as defined by the PT or OT.
• Documentation in electronic health record
• Maintenance of therapeutic equipment
• Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for your decisions and actions and practices within your own level of competence
• Participate in Interprofessional rounds and discussions
• Work collaboratively with patients, families, caregivers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Develop expertise in your area of practice through self-reflection, self-learning, specialty certification and implementation of best practice guidelines.
• Be committed to patient safety and quality responsibilities in accordance with hospital vision, policies and procedures
• Contribute to achieving Sinai Health’s strategic and operational priorities through a commitment to continuous quality improvement, patient/staff safety, professional development and continuing education
• Contribute to Sinai’s work by participating actively in hospital committees and other groups to represent the PTA/OTA perspective
• Assist with other department/unit responsibilities or duties, as required
• Mentor colleagues and new hires as appropriate
• Participate in teaching of students from affiliated institutions.

Mandatory

Job Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited community college occupational therapy/physiotherapy assistant program
