The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the outpatient hand therapy team at Dartmouth General Hospital. You will assess, treat, and follow up with clients, creating individualized plans to restore function in self-care and daily activities, while collaborating with clients, families and the inter-professional team.

Responsibilities include education, supervision of OT Assistants where applicable, and contributing to program development within a busy hospital

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and provincial licensure.
• Experience with burns, plastics or orthopedic populations is an asset.
• BCLS and strong communication skills are required.

About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager, this Occupational Therapy position works in outpatient hand therapy. The Occupational Therapist (OT) works in collaboration with the client, caregivers and family to facilitate, restore and/or maintain the patient/clients optimal level of function in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. The OT provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up while working within the hospital. The OT, in collaboration with the client, establishes individualized treatment plans and goals, independently manages a busy caseload and uses clinical judgement and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis. The OT provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The OT functions as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The OT contributes to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and for supervision of OT Assistants. The OT is responsible for adhering to the Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures and to the professional standards of our licensing body, the Nova Scotia College of Occupational Therapists.

About You

• Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
• Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia
• Previous experience working with burns, plastics and orthopedic patient population considered an asset
• Previous experience in custom splinting and fabrication considered an asset
• Ability to help develop, establish and integrate the role of OT in an inter-professional practice setting
• BCLS
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other health care providers and staff
• Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising, and liaising with external partners
• Ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

• Long assignment part-time position; 52.5 hours biweekly
• Approximately 14 months

Compensation And Benefits

$38.43 - $49.74 hourly

$52.77 hourly with 25 years' service with the employer
