The successful candidate will treat adults with stroke, brain injury, spinal injury, and Parkinson’s, among others, and contribute to return-to-work and driving assessments.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university; Registered with ACOT.
• Minimum of two years’ recent adult neuro rehab experience in outpatient settings.
• Experience with assessment and treatment of neurological disorders, including driving and return-to-work planning.
• Ability to fabricate custom hand splints; strong collaboration within an interdisciplinary team.
• Current BLS certification and commitment to evidence-based practice.

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) who is looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience in neurological rehabilitation? Are you looking for a dynamic, collaborative team environment? The Community Accessible Rehabilitation (CAR) program might be the place for you. CAR is an outpatient rehabilitation program that supports clients who have transitioned out of acute/tertiary care and who have functional-based rehabilitation goals that can be addressed in a short-term community-based program. The CAR OT will support direct patient care in the areas of complex and chronic neurological rehabilitation (eg: stroke, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s). Approximately 80% of the role will be assigned to direct clinical care of clients.We are looking for an OT with clinical expertise treating functional deficits as a result of neurological conditions. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of best practice and have experience in the areas of cognitive, visual-perceptual and upper extremity rehab, custom hand splinting, assessment and treatment for return to driving and return to work related client goals. The OT will work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team and will operate in a client-centered, functional, outcome-based outpatient rehabilitation model.The caseload for all positions within CAR may be subject to change based on operational considerations. CAR is a multisite program and this position is located out of the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program.Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of two-years recent adult neuro rehab experience in an outpatient setting is required (full time equivalent within the past 4 years).Demonstrated experience and competency in the assessment and treatment of adult clients with neurological disorders, including experience with return-to-work planning, driving assessment, vision, upper extremity and cognitive rehab.Demonstrated ability to fabricate custom hand splints for clients with high tone.Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a client-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals required.Demonstrated knowledge and application of evidence-based practice for clients with neurological conditions,Effective self-management skills and demonstrated initiative required.Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.Current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with FES treatment for upper extremity post-stroke.
