Job summary

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) invites applications for an Occupational Health Nurse (RN). The role focuses on providing clinical expertise, managing employee health, and leading wellness initiatives within a fast-paced hospital setting.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of OHN experience in a unionized healthcare environment, current COR/OCN license, and COHN-C or equivalent certification. A signing bonus of $10,000 is offered to eligible candidates.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide OHN expertise, consultation and support to employees and leaders across KHSC.
• Collaborate with physicians, WSIB and external partners on illness and injury management, infection prevention and control matters, fitness-to-work decisions, and workplace accommodations.
• Manage employee health concerns, illnesses, and workplace injuries; complete fitness-to-work and pre-placement assessments; support disability management and accommodation.
• Administer immunizations and occupational surveillance programs.
• Ensure documentation and compliance with relevant legislation, collective agreements, and policies.

The successful candidate will bring at least five years of progressive occupational health nursing experience , preferably in a hospital setting , along with demonstrated experience working in a unionized environment. THE OPPORTUNITY

As an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN), you will provide trusted clinical expertise, consultation, and support to employees and leaders across KHSC. You will also collaborate with community physicians, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and other external partners on workplace illness and injury management, infection prevention and control matters, fitness-to-work decisions, and workplace accommodation.

In this autonomous role, you will manage employee health concerns, illnesses, and workplace injuries; complete fitness-to-work and pre-placement assessments; support disability management and accommodation; administer immunization and occupational surveillance programs; and help deliver healthy workplace initiatives. Your decisions will require thoughtful interpretation and application of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, communicable disease surveillance protocols, collective agreements, benefit plans, organizational policies, and occupational health nursing standards.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Independently assess and manage employee physical and mental health concerns, including fitness-to-work matters.
• Assess work-related and non-work-related injuries, illnesses, and exposures, and provide information, support, referrals, and follow-up.
• Provide health education and administer immunizations to internal and external staff.
• Review medical information to determine work capacity, total disability status, accommodation needs, attendance-management exclusions, and prepare correspondence to employees' treating health care practitioners to obtain objective medical/functional information to support decision making with alignment to legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policy.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support administrative requirements, including policies and procedures, charting, and the ordering of supplies, medications, and immunizations.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Completion of a three-year community college diploma in nursing, or an equivalent nursing diploma.
• A university degree in nursing is preferred.
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• A minimum of five years of experience as an Occupational Health Nurse in a unionized health care environment.
• A post-graduate certificate, diploma, or degree in occupational health nursing.
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse designation (COHN-C); an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• A disability management certificate or NIDMAR certification (CDMP or CRTWC) is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly.
• A satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
