Job summary

Paladin Airport Security Services is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator based at Vancouver Airport. You will lead proactive safety programs, administer the health & safety system, and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with airport operations and regulatory agencies.

The role requires thorough knowledge of OHS regulations, strong communication skills, and experience in a unionized environment.

Qualifications

  • Must live in the Lower Mainland or Greater Vancouver area and be legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • Based out of Vancouver Airport; hours 08:30–17:00, Monday to Friday.
  • Must be willing to pass Professional Reference and Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Drive proactive safety efforts to reduce workplace hazards and create a secure work environment.
  • Administer all aspects of the health & safety program and support safety training.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and build a strong safety culture in collaboration with airport operations.
  • Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Provide support for workers’ compensation claims and Return to Work activities.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to workplace injuries, illnesses, and claims.
  • Monitor safety inspections, hazard assessments, and return-to-work follow-ups.
  • Maintain awareness of provincial workers’ compensation statutes and JOHSC activities.

What will the OHS Coordinator do?

As a key part of the safety team, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator will play an important role in keeping Paladin Airport Security staff safe and healthy. They help drive proactive safety efforts, aiming to reduce workplace hazards and create a secure work environment. Their work involves administering all aspects of the health & safety program, supporting safety training, ensuring compliance with regulations, and building a strong safety culture, all while collaborating closely with airport operations and regulatory agencies.

Additionally, the OHS Coordinator will assist the OHS Manager by providing continuous support, training, and education to frontline managers and staff regarding OHS legislation and WCB regulations.

Position Overview:

  • Collaborate with operational management, unions, and regulatory agencies to promote a safe work environment.
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the OHS program.
  • Liaise with regional airports and mitigate safety concerns.
  • Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Provide support in the administration and coordination of workers’ compensation claims and Return to Work activities, as assigned.
  • Communicate with employees, operational management, workers’ compensation authorities and other stakeholders to support timely and effective claim and recovery processes.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of modified work and Return to Work plans.
  • Prepare, collect, submit and maintain documentation related to workplace injuries, illnesses, workers’ compensation claims and Return to Work activities.
  • Monitor assigned claim activities, timelines, documentation and employee recovery progress and identify matters requiring follow-up or escalation.
  • Review and participate in regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and workplace observations to identify and help correct unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain awareness provincial workers' compensation statutes, regulations or jurisprudence impacting claims management. Support Joint Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) activities and follow-up.
  • Facilitate Health and Safety related meetings as required by the applicable collective agreement.
  • Engage management to satisfy health and safety related items set out in collective agreements.
  • Foster positive working relationships with airport authorities, unions, regulatory agencies, and staff to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain and analyze OHS records and statistics, preparing reports for management and identifying safety trends for continuous improvement.
  • Provide administrative support to the OHS Manager on special projects and compliance audits as required.
  • Other duties as required.

What you bring to PASS as an OHS Coordinator:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the competencies below and fit with PASS's internal corporate culture.

  • Must possess a High School Diploma.
  • An additional post-secondary education or training in Occupational Health and Safety is required.
  • Familiar with Federal and Provincial OHS Legislation and OHS best practices.
  • Able to interpret and explain regulations to others.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Office 365.
  • Experience administering a health and safety program in a unionized environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; coupled with the ability to self-direct and prioritize work effectively.
  • An understanding of statistics, data analytics is required.
  • Able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance (TSC). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to handle confidential employee information with diplomacy and professionalism.
