A healthcare organization is seeking a Nursing Attendant in Calgary, Alberta. You will assist in operating room activities, support patient transport, and ensure that the OR is properly equipped. Relevant qualifications include completion of a personal care attendant program and BCLS certification. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. This role offers a temporary part-time position with variable shift patterns.
Under the guidance and supervision of the perioperative nurse and immediate supervisor, the Operating Room Nursing Attendant assists with the flow of daily activities of the OR, ambulates pre‑operative patients and transports patients to the theatres. Under direct supervision of the perioperative Nurse, the NA assists with transferring patients to and from the OR table, assists with positioning of patients for surgical procedures and holds limbs for surgical prep. The NA will pick and collect supplies for the surgical procedures and ensure the OR theatres are set up with all the necessary equipment for the surgical procedures. Ensures all equipment are in safe working condition and assists with inventory supply management. The NA assists with tagging, communicating and tracking any malfunctioning equipment as directed by charge nurse. The NA participates in Department activities related to safety, IPC, quality and positive work environment.
As a Nursing Attendant, you are an unregulated health care provider working within a team to provide basic health care support services to patients (clients, residents) that require short‑term assistance or ongoing support. This may include assisting clients to complete activities of daily living and providing comfort and indirect services including preparing required equipment and assisting with patient positioning to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. This position is currently under review for alignment to the Health Care Aide classification, and may be reclassified pending the outcome of the review.
Graduate from an approved personal care attendant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Current BCLS certification required. Health Care Aide Certificate / or equivalent medical background experience. Previous OR experience essential. Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written English. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Well-developed time management skills.
