Job Summary

Lead the Future of Advanced Practice in Interventional Radiology (IR) at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH). The first‑ever Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner role in Canada is launching at SMH, and we’re looking for a visionary NP ready to shape the future of IR care. As Fraser Health expands Interventional Radiology services, this position is central to building a sustainable, high‑performing, patient‑centered IR program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical assessment and management of patients before, during, and after IR procedures
  • Expedited consults, follow‑ups, recovery, and discharges
  • Performance of minor procedures within NP scope to enhance continuity of care
  • Collaboration with Interventional Radiologists, nurses, and allied health to support coordinated, patient‑centered care
  • Participation in population‑based planning, policy development, and outcome evaluation

Responsibilities (Detailed)
  1. Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients for undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first‑line care in emergencies.
  2. Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations, interprets reports, and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment.
  3. Establishes priorities for management of health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provides follow‑up treatment; communicates with patients and families about health findings, diagnoses, priorities, outcomes, and prognoses; supports and counsels patients in their responses to disease.
  4. Collaborates and consults with physicians or other healthcare and social service providers as appropriate to assess and diagnose patient status; develops and implements treatment plans; may admit and discharge patients to facilities according to organizational policies.
  5. Prescribes drugs within statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies.
  6. Assigns work to other nursing and health care personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff and evaluates staff performance.
  7. Participates in research contributing to improved patient care and advances in nursing, health policy development, and population health.
  8. Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk.
  9. Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations, mentoring, role modeling, and facilitating knowledge exchange.
  10. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.
  11. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
