Job Summary

Bring your clinical expertise and passion for providing high-quality, patient-centred care to an exciting new Nurse Practitioner role within the Internal Medicine program at Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH).

Working alongside Internal Medicine physicians and an interdisciplinary care team, you will provide comprehensive care to medically complex patients, with an initial clinical focus on the Telemetry Unit. You will have the opportunity to assess and manage patients throughout their hospital stay, develop and implement treatment plans, coordinate care with specialty and allied health services, and support safe and timely transitions of care. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a developing Internal Medicine NP program at CGH.

As one of the first NPs in this role, you will have the opportunity to help shape NP practice within the program while working within a collaborative physician‑NP model. The Internal Medicine physician will remain the Most Responsible Physician (MRP), with the NP providing day‑to‑day clinical management within their scope of practice. The initial focus will be inpatient Internal Medicine and Telemetry. As the program becomes established, there may be opportunities for the NP role to expand into other areas of Internal Medicine practice based on patient and program needs. The role will have a strong focus on continuity of care, patient flow, access and timely discharge, while supporting high‑quality care for a complex medical population.

Supported Transition to Practice

Whether you are a new graduate NP or an experienced NP, transitioning into Internal Medicine, your orientation will be tailored to your previous experience and learning needs. Experienced NPs will receive an individualized enhanced orientation, with clinical experiences and learning opportunities tailored to their existing competencies and areas for development. New graduate NPs will participate in Fraser Health’s 6‑month Acute Care NP Residency Program, providing an extended period of supernumerary practice prior to independent practice.

Our Nurse Practitioner Residency Program offers a unique postgraduate experience that will elevate your skills and strengthen your transition into independent practice.

During your residency, you’ll receive:
  1. Advanced Training: Dive deep into a clinical area relevant to your role. Our in‑house experts will provide specialized training that sets you up for success.
  2. Team Collaboration: Build connections as you work alongside experienced professionals who value teamwork and shared goals.
  3. Patient‑Centered Care: Develop a model of care that puts patients at the heart of everything you do. Make a real impact on their lives.
  4. Mentorship: Benefit from mentorship across multiple clinical areas. Learn from the best and grow exponentially.
  5. Clinical Supervision: During your clinical placements, enjoy dedicated supervision that ensures you’re on the right track.
  6. Self‑Directed Learning: We believe in your growth. You will set aside protected time for self‑directed learning tailored to your clinical practice and needs.
  7. Experienced Coaching: Get personalized guidance and support with weekly check‑ins from an experienced nurse practitioner throughout your residency.

Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in‑house skills development such as 12‑lead ECG interpretation, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), suturing and imaging review, including X‑ray, CT Scan and echocardiogram, in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation.
