Your Opportunity

The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital is looking for dynamic and motivated individuals that want to build the Nurse Practitioner program and enhance healthcare delivery. The facility offers a Med/Surg Unit, LDRP, Surgical Services, IVT/OPD and a 24/7 Emergency Department. The city of Fort Saskatchewan is a family orientated, friendly, and welcoming community that is only a short 20-minute drive from Edmonton. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced clinical nursing practice role that provides expert clinical care in managing the health needs of individuals, families and communities and requires further knowledge and decision making in assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management. This position functions as part of an interdisciplinary team, seeing clients across the life span. This NP role is working in the Nurse Practitioner‑led IV Therapy program and is now exploring opportunities to expand the role of NPs within the Emergency Department. The primary responsibility of the NP is to provide comprehensive direct patient care as a central member of the team. The NP is authorized and competent to perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, intervention, management, referral, and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of health care services. The NP provides leadership and actively participates in program development and evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities. The NP participates in interdisciplinary collaboration in the practice setting to determine, and regularly review, local guidelines for drug prescription, distribution, monitoring, and record keeping ensuring consistency with provincial prescribing and distributing guidelines.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

Must be able to support flexible work schedule as we continue to grow and develop our NP program. Computer literacy skills mandatory (i.e., Connect Care, Netcare, etc.). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team environment. Ability to function independently. Excel at working in a dynamic fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an Outpatient/IVT/Emergency/Medicine setting. Current NRP, ACLS and PALS would be an asset.
