Job description

Canada House has 12 established clinics across Canada and are experts in Cannabinoid therapy. We are looking to strengthen our British Columbia multi-disciplinary team to include a part-time Nurse Practitioner who can work in-person or remotely. The clinic is professionally managed by experienced administrative and medical staff with full billing support.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works as a consultant, educator, and advocate through in-person or telemedicine appointments. The NP practices autonomously, offering the full scope of primary health care that nurse practitioners practice. He/she functions as a member of the interdisciplinary care team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s plan of care. Patient records are handled through our custom-built EMR, CPM and provides flexible daytime weekday hours, with no on-call or after-hours requirements. This vacant position comes with an existing patient roster.

Responsibilities
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts.
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of Canada House.
  • Participates in professional nursing associations and other external agencies to further the development of nursing and provision of services.
  • The Nurse Practitioner participates in the identification, analysis, and interpretation of trends in client outcomes and professional nursing practice issues in order to determine priorities for educational programming for residents, family, and staff.
  • Participates in the identification, analysis, and interpretation of trends in care in order to assist the healthcare facility, in collaboration with the residents and their caregivers, to determine and address health care priorities and related issues.
  • Ensure patients have appropriate knowledge on therapy expectations.
  • Collaborates and consults with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive assessment, analysis, treatment planning and evaluation of resident's care.
  • Consults with and refers to other health care professionals and community services as needed.
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety.

Requirements
  • Current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with Extended Class privileges with the College of Nurses in British Colombia.
  • Masters of Nursing is preferred.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, and successful completion of the British Columbia Primary HealthCare Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a primary healthcare nurse practitioner is preferred.
  • Proven leadership abilities with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Current membership in the Nurse Practitioners Association of British Columbia.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.

Canada House requires a Nurse Practitioner, Extended Class (NP) for a senior management position with the role of practitioner, consultant, educator, and advocate. The NP will practice autonomously, providing the full scope of primary health care nurse practitioner services. He/she will function as a member of the interdisciplinary care team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the resident's plan of care.

The Nurse Practitioner, Extended Class will be expected to establish and maintain open, effective communication between facility, clients / patients, physicians, treatment teams and nurses to ensure their effective completion of job duties.
