JOB OPPORTUNITY - Nurse Educator - Part-Time Position

POSITION SUMMARY

Youthdale Treatment Center Professional Practice department is seeking a part-time clinical nurse educator to provide leadership in clinical and professional practice education and research. This role will work collaboratively with other educator leads helping to deliver innovative and compassionate healthcare in our community.

The nurse educator in Mental Health & Addictions Child and Adolescent Programs is at the forefront as they optimize the use of real time data predictive analytics and professional expertise to continuously improve quality and safety in patient care delivery. Through their ability to lead consult and advise health professionals in accordance with legal regulatory professional standards policies and practice guidelines with a primary focus on achieving excellence in patient care by being a high reliability hospital.

The nurse educator is accountable for assessing staff competency in the context of performance management in collaboration with the clinical management team. The nurse educator facilitates and supports continuous learning professional development and service excellence through education coaching and mentoring of nursing and inter-professional staff. Reporting to the Program Director of Quality & Inter-Professional Practice the nurse educator provides leadership and clinical expertise to support quality excellence in client care by planning developing implementing and evaluating programs.

Location: Inpatient Units (227 Victoria St. Toronto ON)

Schedule: 2.5 days per week

Status: Part-Time Permanent

Union / Non: This is a non-unionized position.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Reports to: Director Quality & Inter-Professional Practice

Corporate Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities
  • Consultation with the Program Director Chief of Psychiatry Clinical Managers and staff regarding program needs
  • Modelling excellence in clinical practice and professional development
  • Promoting the development of interdisciplinary teams
  • Designing learning needs assessments and developing educational programs to support these needs
  • Conducting orientation and education for Mental Health and Addictions.
  • Developing continuous education programs to keep staff updated with new practices skills and certifications
  • Facilitating development of interdisciplinary standard of care
  • Education of staff to provide inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and addictions care
  • Education of staff in suicide awareness and risk assessment violence risk assessment mental status assessment safe administration of psychotropic medications least restraint philosophy and Trauma Informed care
Qualifications
  • Current RN Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required and able to practice without restrictions.
  • Masters of Nursing preferred
  • Bachelors in Science (Nursing) required
  • Current BCLS and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification required
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in psychiatric nursing required
  • Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing required
  • Solid knowledge / experience of addictions an asset
  • Solid knowledge / experience in Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • Solid knowledge / experience in Child Adolescent Mental Health preferred
  • Previous experience in an adult educator / Clinical Practice Leader role
  • Experience in adult education principles that address facets of learning needs assessment
  • Experience in the design delivery and evaluation of educational programs
  • Excellent verbal written and computer skills
  • Highly developed knowledge of team facilitation skills change management and continuous quality improvements.
  • Ability to be self-directed in fast paced environment
  • Highly developed customer service approach
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment. Excellent organizational skills
  • SMG Instructor certification an asset
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation to develop new ways to improve operations and create new opportunities.
  • Ability to anticipate understand and respond to the needs of clients stakeholders and staff.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance urgency and risk and to make clear and timely decisions.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as required including weekends
  • Advanced organizational and administrative skills.
  • Able to utilize the electronic health care record and possess other computer skills (Microsoft Word Excel Power Point etc).
